On Steam Deck the save lives inside the game's Proton prefix, not in your Linux home. AppID 105600. Proton always names the Windows user 'steamuser' (never your Linux username). Players are in Players/ (.plr) and worlds in Worlds/ (.wld). If the game is installed on a microSD card, look under that card's steamapps/compatdata/ instead. Enable 'View › Show Hidden Files' in the Dolphin file manager to see the folder.

Cloud saves
On PC through Steam, Terraria can use Steam Cloud for both characters and worlds. If a cloud and local save conflict after offline play, choose the newer copy when prompted so you don't lose a world.
Cloud save conflict & platform recovery
Terraria's Steam Cloud syncs both your characters (.plr) and worlds (.wld). After offline play or across two PCs the cloud and local copies can disagree, and choosing the wrong one at the Steam conflict prompt overwrites a world — .wld files do not merge. Always back up the local Documents copy before you answer the dialog.
- Close Terraria fully before touching any file so Steam does not re-sync mid-copy.
- Back up the local copy: press Win+R, type %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Terraria and copy the Players and Worlds folders somewhere safe.
- Identify the newest save: in the Worlds folder the .wld with the newest modified date is your latest map; in Players the matching .plr is your character — check dates against your last session on the other PC.
- Exact backup command (Windows CMD): robocopy "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Terraria" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TerrariaSaveBackup" /E
- At the Steam Cloud conflict dialog pick "Upload to Steam Cloud" if your local files are newer, or "Download" if the cloud copy is newer — never guess, use the timestamps you just checked.
- Mobile/console saves live in their own app or cloud and cannot be merged with the PC .plr/.wld files; move a world between them via the in-game cloud sync, not by copying files.
Terraria keeps both Players and Worlds here, and a corrupted world can take a character with it. Back the whole folder up before modding or moving PCs:

Save problems & fixes
Terraria save won’t load or says it’s corrupt
Many games keep an automatic backup next to the save (a .bak or numbered copy) — close the game, copy that backup over the broken file, and reopen. On Steam, also right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
My Terraria save is missing or the folder is empty
You are usually looking in the wrong sub-folder — open the numbered profile/Steam-ID folder inside the path above, not the parent. If it is still empty, cloud sync may not have finished before the game overwrote the local copy; reconnect and let the cloud sync complete before launching.
Terraria progress rolled back after a cloud conflict
When Steam or the console reports a save conflict, always keep the version with the LATER timestamp. Choosing the older cloud copy overwrites newer local progress — the most common cause of “lost hours.” If unsure, disable cloud sync, back up the local folder first, then re-enable it.
